Starlight’s lessons are taught following the National Curriculum objectives and match your child’s year group requirements. The teaching and learning will be consistent with the learning taking place in your child’s school.
Our English sessions will include a starter of either grammar, spelling or punctuation. Lessons will mainly be focussed on writing. We will be using a variety of games and teaching techniques to edit and improve writing. Children will consider how powerful language can help create interesting pieces of writing and use a variety of methods and techniques within their own work. Some sessions will be taught reading comprehensions that will focus on a variety of reading skills such as inference, prediction and retrieval linked to the requirements of your child’s year group. Some lessons will also include assessments to consolidate and assess learning.
Maths will be linked to the National Curriculum objectives. Sessions will include place value, number, measurement, statistics and geometry. There will be an opportunity to practice skills that children have learnt and apply them when solving problems and reasoning. Reasoning enables children to make use of all their other mathematical skills and children will be guided to make use of relevant prior knowledge to tackle problems. Some lessons will also include assessments to consolidate and assess learning.
We are two local teachers who have a passion for teaching and our love for learning and ensuring children are given the best opportunity to succeed has meant that we have wanted to create a place where children can thrive. We met in our first year of teaching and although have moved on to different schools, have remained friends. Currently, we are teaching Year 3 and Year 6 however have experience teaching throughout all of KS2. We created Starlight Learning to help children become more confident in their learning. As it is within a small group setting, children will be given more teacher focus and an opportunity to challenge themselves to reach their potential.
